Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ADC registration and our courses

Pass rates for the ADC written examination vary by country of training, typically ranging from 50-70% for well-prepared candidates. Success rates are significantly higher for candidates who complete comprehensive preparation courses like GdayDentist and dedicate 6-12 months of focused study time.

Initial Assessment: AUD $647. Written Examination: AUD $2,122 (280 scenario-based MCQs over 2 days, 4 sections × 70 questions). Practical Examination: AUD $4,775 (2-day clinical assessment in Melbourne). Total ADC costs: approximately $7,500-8,000 AUD excluding preparation courses and travel.

You cannot work as a dentist in Australia until you pass the ADC exams and obtain AHPRA registration. However, you may work in related roles such as dental assistant, oral health educator, or in non-clinical dental positions while preparing for your exams.

You need to demonstrate English proficiency through IELTS (minimum band 7 in each component), PTE Academic (minimum 65 in each), or OET (minimum B grade in each). Some UK and Irish graduates may be exempt from English testing.

The complete process typically takes 12-24 months from initial application to final registration. This includes: Initial Assessment (8 weeks), Written Exam preparation (6-12 months), Written Exam (held twice yearly - March & September), Practical Exam preparation (2-4 months), and Practical Exam (held in Melbourne).

The ADC written exam covers 13 disciplines across 5 domains: Restorative Dentistry (12%), Pharmacology (10%), General Medicine (9%), Oral Medicine & Pathology (9%), Endodontics (8%), Oral Surgery (8%), Paediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics (8%), Periodontics (8%), Preventive Dentistry (8%), Dental Emergencies (7%), Pain & Behaviour Management (7%), Removable Prosthodontics (6%), and Radiography & Infection Control (5% each). Our course provides comprehensive coverage of all disciplines.
